on film(generic) . the film was really great. It was like one sound, whichever note. As if I was a participant in paid market research, and this sound was a sample for me. They asked just that I listen, and respond. Only, in such a situation, there comes an attached freedom, and it is always present, where you must choose the response you give, and not so much just as what to say, but whether to be truthful, to the capacity of truth you can produce, or to contrive, or to be false, even if this falsity is well thought out and elaborated. With market research moving in time with the market, the researchers lack the means to stop and wring you of a truthful response. Thus, your response is very much your leisure. And the sound, it is just like a taste in a familiar plastic cup, slipped under a small double door by a faceless cook or researcher. You are here afforded this freedom, or leisure, to enjoy the sound and mark the form as you please, to toil over an honest answer, or consider how you could throw the market so to speak, a quiet revolt at consumerism. I found myself with this sound, this stimulation, tasteless, and without noise. Welcomed filling of time and distraction from nothing else. For a second I got carried away, and thought of the possibility that I could seek an occupation producing such sounds as this. Yet almost simultaneously I was reminded that the production of such a sound (such a film) involved much more than just listening, and I was sitting, passive, without a job prospect, in a focus group, albeit paid market research.
